Welcome to birdhouse, your child’s second home. We do things a little differently. At birdhouse, we believe that children have the right to create, explore, and express themselves. Our Learning Approach
Play as a Superpower
Inspired by Montessori, Reggio-Emilia, Conscious Discipline, and Forest School approaches, we create an environment where children learn through play, developing critical thinking, creativity, and a deep connection with nature
Conscious Educators
Conscious Discipline is an inside-out approach where educators master self-regulation & emotional control. This brain-based, research-backed method models for children how to self-regulate. build resilience, and establish boundaries.
Holistic Health
We focus on nurturing the whole child—mind, body, and spirit—through activities that promote physical well-being, sensory development, emotional resilience, and a sense of connection to themselves and the world around them.
Creative Expression
Through arts, music, play, and imaginative thinking, we encourage children to express freely, providing opportunities to build confidence and a unique perspective on life.
Outdoor Learning
Our outdoor spaces are designed for open-ended exploration, encouraging children to engage in self-directed play, take risks, and problem-solve using the natural environment as their guide.
Nature & Nurture
Through gardening and caring for animals and living things, children develop a sense of empathy, and oneness with the world, cultivating a responsibility for their environment.
* Matt Sink - Co-Founder
Hey, I’m Matt! Education runs in my family—my mom spent over 40 years as a teacher, and my dad was a Professor of Childhood Development. I’ve spent years working to bring high-quality early education to families, and I’m passionate about supporting local communities and helping teachers thrive in their roles.
* Sydney Bennett - Co-Founder
Hi! I’m Sydney. Growing up in Port Washington with a mom as an educator, I developed a deep appreciation for early learning. With years of experience working in the space, I've seen firsthand how traditional child care just doesn’t work for busy families. Birdhouse is a labor of love with the mission of providing nurturing environments for parents, children, and teachers. We’re rethinking child care, making it a source of support, not stress.
